Abu Dhabi is set to open a major expansion on April 4, 2026, introducing 11 new slides and attractions, at Yas Waterworld on Yas Island. This wonderful development is by Miral, and inspired by The Legend of The Lost Pearl. This expansion marks the next phase of the park’s “Lost City” theme, and promises to elevate the total number of in-park experiences to over 70! The project only underscores Abu Dhabi’s growing prominence as a global leisure and tourism destination. 

UAE’s Tallest Waterslide: Matamir’s Drop

Matamir’s Drop is the centerpiece of this expansion which is confirmed as the tallest waterslide in all of UAE! Standing over 40 meters high, it features a near-vertical freefall and a 233-meter slide run. This ride is sure to deliver an intense adrenaline rush for thrill-seekers. This record-breaking addition positions Yas Waterworld as a leader in innovative water-based attractions across the region. 

New Thrill Rides and Immersive Experiences

Alongside Matamir’s Drop, the expansion also introduces several high-speed attractions:

  • Sahel Matamir: This is a freefall tube racer offering bursts of acceleration and literal zero-gravity moments.

  • Matamir Loop: This ride is a rapid descent body slide with intense momentum.

  • Matamir Twist – Matamir Lights: This is a beautiful visually immersive ride combining sharp drops with dynamic lighting effects.

  • Matamir Splash: A competitive duelling mat racer that allows side-by-side racing.

These rides are designed to blend storytelling, speed, and sensory engagement, enhancing the park’s appeal to fearless adventure-loving guests. 

Family-Friendly Additions and Relaxation Zones

If you thought the expansion is noy for the bold-hearted, the expansion includes more relaxed experiences, balancing high-octane thrills:

  • Sarab: This is a more relaxed spacious leisure pool area for families to unwind.

  • Al Afda: A jumping platform attraction encouraging playful leaps into the water.

All these additions ensure a diverse experience catering to all age groups and preferences, reinforcing the park’s family-friendly reputation.

Jonathan Brown, Chief Portfolio Officer at Miral, emphasized that the expansion is a key milestone in delivering world-class entertainment on Yas Island. And by integrating cultural narratives with cutting-edge attractions, these developments support Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to strengthen its position as a top-tier global tourism hub. 

Matamir’s Drop, the UAE’s tallest waterslide at over 40 meters, is expected to mamothly boost tourism in the UAE by reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s position as a premier global leisure destination. As the centerpiece of Yas Waterworld’s expansion, it enhances the park’s appeal to international thrill-seekers and families. This will increase visitor capacity by an estimated 20% and expanding the park’s footprint by approximately 16,900 square meters. This development aligns perfectly with Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy which is to strengthen its tourism ecosystem, drawing more guests to Yas Island and supporting its reputation as a world-class entertainment hub. 

Will The Yas Waterworld Be Functional Amidst The Geo-Political Situation?

Yes, Matamir’s Drop and the Yas Waterworld expansion are expected to function effectively even amid regional tensions, as the UAE has demonstrated strong resilience in its tourism and aviation sectors.
