Air Canada will launch direct flights between Toronto Pearson (YYZ) and Oslo Gardermoen (OSL) for Summer 2027 — the only non-stop service between North America and Norway — giving Canadian travellers a new gateway to Scandinavia.

The new Toronto–Oslo route is one of three new European non-stop services Air Canada will add for next summer, alongside Shannon, Ireland and Nice, France. For Canada, the move strengthens Toronto Pearson’s role as a transatlantic hub and adds a sought-after Nordic option without a connection in London, Frankfurt or Copenhagen.

Toronto–Oslo: What Canadian Travellers Need to Know

  • Route: Toronto Pearson (YYZ) ↔ Oslo Gardermoen (OSL)
  • Frequency: 4 days per week
  • Season: 2 June 2027 to 10 October 2027
  • Significance: The only direct flight between North America and Norway
  • Aircraft: Widebody — Air Canada notes its first Toronto-based Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners arriving later this year will support further expansion

For travellers from across Canada — Halifax, Montréal, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Calgary and Vancouver — the flight allows a single domestic connection at Toronto on to Oslo, avoiding a second connection in Europe. Eastbound overnight and westbound daytime patterns familiar to Air Canada’s other Nordic services are expected, with full schedules and fares to be opened for sale on aircanada.com.

Part of a Wider European Push From Toronto

Air Canada confirmed the Oslo service as part of a Summer 2027 expansion announced on 3 September 2026:

New / Expanded Route from Toronto Schedule (Summer 2027) Note for Canadians
Toronto – Oslo (OSL) 4× weekly, 2 Jun – 10 Oct 2027 Only North America–Norway non-stop
Toronto – Shannon (SNN) 3× weekly, 10 Jun – 2 Oct 2027 Only non-stop Canada–Shannon
Toronto – Nice (NCE) 2× weekly (Wed/Sat), 16 Jun – 23 Oct 2027 Seasonal Côte d’Azur link
Toronto – London Heathrow (LHR) Return of morning 08:30 departure, arriving ~21:00 local Day-flight option restored
Toronto – Guatemala City (GUA) Launches Dec 2026, then year-round Previously announced; now extended
Toronto – Shanghai (PVG) Increased to daily Asia-Pacific connectivity boost

“Our expansion plays an important role in connecting our customers, our country and the Americas to the world,” said Mark Galardo, Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer and President, Cargo at Air Canada. Toronto Pearson President and CEO Deborah Flint added the new services “strengthen vital links to global markets” from Canada’s busiest airport.

Why Oslo Matters for Canada

Oslo has long required a one-stop itinerary for Canadians. A non-stop changes the calculation for both leisure and business travel:

  • Tourism: Direct access to Norway’s fjords, Northern Lights shoulder season, and summer coastal itineraries — with easy connections via Oslo to Bergen, Tromsø, Trondheim and the Lofoten Islands.
  • VFR and business: Strong Norwegian-Canadian ties in energy, maritime, tech and education, plus a Norwegian diaspora in Ontario and Western Canada.
  • Onward Scandinavia: Oslo Gardermoen offers efficient Star Alliance connections to Stockholm, Copenhagen and Helsinki.
  • Inbound to Canada: Norway is a high-spend inbound market for Canada’s nature and city tourism — the flight brings Scandinavia closer for summer visits to Ontario, Québec and Atlantic Canada.

Booking Tips for Canadian Travellers

  • Book early for late June–August peaks; shoulder weeks in early June and late September–October typically price lower.
  • Aeroplan members can redeem or earn points on the route; watch for companion and stopover options in Toronto.
  • If connecting domestically, allow at least 90 minutes at Toronto Pearson for international departures.
  • Consider an open-jaw: fly into Oslo, return from Copenhagen or Stockholm via Air Canada or Star Alliance partners.

What This Means for Toronto Pearson

With the three new European additions, Pearson further cements its summer transatlantic network. The return of a daytime Toronto–London Heathrow departure — 08:30 from Toronto, 21:00 arrival in London — is particularly useful for Canadian business travellers who prefer to arrive and connect to a hotel rather than overnight in economy. The daily Toronto–Shanghai upgrade also signals continued demand for Canada–Asia capacity.

Air Canada says more network announcements will follow as its first Toronto-based Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners are delivered later this year — aircraft that will add range and premium capacity suited to longer thin routes like Oslo.
