Ahead of the return of Vocal Breathwork at Damai this October, a new Living Room Session brings together Petrina Kow, Dr Budi Miller, and award-winning actress Yeo Yann Yann to explore the connection between actor training and authentic communication.

SINGAPORE, 28 AUGUST 2026: Grand Hyatt Singapore invites guests to rethink the way they use their voice with a new programme exploring the relationship between breath, body, presence, and communication, and how these shape public speaking, executive presence, and everyday impact in the workplace. Beginning with a Living Room Session on 10 September 2026, the programme opens a public conversation on voice and presence as levers of authenticity and interpersonal connection. In October, it continues at Damai Spa & Fitness Centre with the return of Vocal Breathwork with Petrina Kow, an intensive four-session retreat at Damai House, grounded in the internationally practised Fitzmaurice Voicework® methodology.

Rather than approaching voice simply as a matter of projection, polish, or public-speaking technique, Fitzmaurice Voicework® treats it as an embodied practice, exploring how breath, physical tension, nervous-system responses, imagination, and language shape the way people communicate. Originally developed for actors, its principles have since found applications across performance, leadership, public speaking, teaching, and everyday communication.

This programme reflects Grand Hyatt Singapore’s broader approach to wellbeing, extending far beyond physical training and recovery to examine how greater awareness of the body can influence confidence, connection, and self-expression. Within Damai, the hotel’s integrated wellness destination, Vocal Breathwork complements existing experiences designed around the principles of Reclaim, Recover, and Reconnect.

“At Damai, we increasingly see wellbeing as something that extends beyond physical recovery into how people move through their everyday lives, manage pressure, connect with others, and feel present in themselves,” said Lily Tan, Damai Spa Manager, Grand Hyatt Singapore. “Voicework is a natural extension of that philosophy because the way we communicate is closely connected to how we breathe, inhabit our bodies, and respond in the moment. Through this programme, we hope to create another avenue for guests to reconnect with themselves and carry that greater sense of awareness into their personal and professional lives.”

“Many people think that finding their voice means sounding more confident or polished, but it starts with something much more fundamental, with how we breathe, inhabit our bodies, and respond under pressure,” said Petrina Kow, Regional Director (Southeast Asia) for the Fitzmaurice Institute. “Fitzmaurice Voicework helps us notice those patterns instead of fighting them. From there, the voice becomes more responsive, expressive, and true to who we are. Whether you are an actor, leader, or C-suite professional, it ultimately comes back to communicating as your authentic self.”

Living Room Session: Finding Your Voice

On 10 September 2026, Grand Hyatt Singapore’s next Living Room Session brings the conversation beyond the studio, examining what techniques developed through actor training can teach people about presence and communication in everyday life, whether in personal conversations or in the workplace.

Moderated by Petrina Kow, the evening brings together three practitioners whose work approaches voice and performance from different perspectives:

  • Petrina Kow, voice, accents, and public speaking coach, and Regional Director (Southeast Asia) for the Fitzmaurice Institute.
  • Dr Budi Miller, Lead Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework® and Director of Advanced Training for the Fitzmaurice Institute.
  • Yeo Yann Yann, award-winning actress whose work spans theatre, television, and film, most recently starring in We Are All Strangers by Anthony Chen.

The conversation will explore how actor training develops awareness of breath, embodiment, and presence, highlighting practical voice techniques that can support clarity, confidence, and emotional authenticity, before discussing how the same principles can translate between artistic practice and professional settings, having much wider applications for executives and professionals seeking to improve their presentation and leadership skills.

The discussion will also examine the differences and common ground between training artists and corporate professionals, considering how techniques developed for performance can be adapted without having to adopt a rehearsed or artificial persona.

Following the panel discussion, Petrina will lead a short participatory voice and embodiment exercise, offering guests an experiential introduction to the work before an audience Q&A and an opportunity to meet the speakers.

The session continues the hotel’s Living Room Session series, conceived in the spirit of Grand Hyatt Singapore’s Grand Living Room as a space for gathering over shared interests and experiences.

“The Living Room Sessions were created to bring people together around subjects that invite genuine curiosity and conversation,” said Timothy Parr, Hotel Manager, Grand Hyatt Singapore. “Voice is an especially interesting extension of that idea, because it sits right at the intersection of wellbeing, creativity, and professional life, all of which are values that we all appreciate regardless of our industry or background. This programme looks beyond conventional definitions of wellness to consider how the way we speak and even breathe can affect how we experience ourselves and the world around us.”

Vocal Breathwork Returns to Damai House

Following its inaugural eight-week run in 2025, Vocal Breathwork with Petrina Kow returns to Damai House with a new four-session format designed as a sequential exploration of Fitzmaurice Voicework®.

Across four sessions lasting four hours each, participants will learn to recognise habitual patterns that constrain breath and voice, release unnecessary muscular tension, reconnect breath and sound throughout the body, and develop greater vocal range, presence, and adaptability.

The retreat follows four interconnected pillars of Fitzmaurice Voicework®: Destructuring, Restructuring®, Presence, and Play, moving from awareness and release towards practical application.

Session One: Destructuring® — Undoing and Being

4 October 2026 | 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM

The opening session introduces participants to Dynamic Efforts and Tremorwork®,
using physical exploration to identify patterns of muscular tension and breath holding
around vocalisation. Participants begin examining how sound occurs throughout the
body and how releasing habitual effort can allow breath and voice to become more
spontaneous and responsive.

Session Two: Restructuring® — Building the Foundation

11 October 2026 | 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM

The second session reconnects breath with vocal support, introducing the
Destructuring Sequence alongside the muscles involved in structuring and intentional
breathing. Through individual, partner and small-group exercises, participants explore
the relationship between abdominal support, breath, resonance and communication
while developing greater economy of effort.

Session Three: Presence — Permission, Presence and Power

25 October 2026 | 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Moving from mechanics towards communication, the third session explores what it
means to hold a room while remaining connected to oneself and an audience.
Participants will work with common nervous-system responses associated with
speaking and performance, while exploring vocal variety, storytelling and techniques
for communicating with greater stability and intention.

Session Four: Play — Application to Text, Song and Speech

1 November 2026 | 2:30 PM – 6:30 PM

The final session brings the earlier stages together through individual and group
exercises incorporating speech, text and song. Participants will explore range,
flexibility and spontaneity before developing an individualised practice that can be
carried into presentations, storytelling, auditions, performance or everyday
communication.

The workshop is designed for professionals, public speakers, artists, and performers, with participation capped at 20 guests to maintain an intimate and practice-led environment.

Each workshop session includes Afternoon Tea from Oasis, served at Damai House, alongside a complimentary four-hour parking coupon and one-hour access to Damai’s spa and hydrothermal facilities before or after the session.
